How bad do you have the golf-jones? No … really …. that’s an honest question … how bad do you have it? Have you ever sat in the back of a sales meeting playing your favorite golf course in your head to kill time? Have you ever blew off your list of honey-do’s for a quick 18 somewhere? Or maybe blew up your VISA card to bag a brand new Nike driver? Or, god forbid, called in sick so you could go shoot the round of your life? Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with any of that. I think that officially makes golf your hobby. And if you have a hobby, you should be passionate about it, which means you should do something about it.
That is the whole concept behind Golfest and serves as an open invitation on our behalf to join us. We are looking for some avid golfers (aka … passionate hobbiest) to join our ranks on future golf trips and outings. After all, we do have a lot in common. If you are looking to join an entertaining group of individuals, in a no pressure friendly environment, for the ultimate annual golf adventure, then you have come to the right place. Golfest has visited coveted golf destinations from Pebble Beach and Pinehurst, to Bandon Dunes and Myrtle Beach. Most of our trips are centered around Golf Digest’s Top 100 rated Public Golf Courses.
Our efforts kicked off in 2004 when a group of us got tired of thumbing through the pages of Golf Digest … dreaming about playing some of those beauties portrayed in the glossy stock photos. Heck, they were rubbing our noses in it and we couldn’t take that abuse any longer. (At least that is what I told my wife.) So we decided to do something about it and we actually go play Top 100 rated courses – every year – at least once!
As it turns out, this was one of the best decisions we ever made. We already knew that knocking the little white ball around our local muni-course on Saturday morning was special in its own right. However, we quickly learned that there is a very special “shock and awe” factor that cames into play when playing top tier golf establishments. Until it happened, we never knew what we were missing.
For example, famous playgrounds such as Pebble Beach and Pinehurst overflow with history. Becoming part of that history, strolling in the same footsteps of greats such as Tiger Woods and Jack Nicholas is the bomb! You can’t get that at your muni where crab grass thrives and it looks like Sasquatch spent the night in the bunkers.
Or a place such as Bandon Dunes, which seems to be located in the middle of nowhere in Oregon. It’s golf-squared when it comes to service and golf. You basically go there for one reason – to eat, sleep, and golf and then do it again … and again … and again! We are talking about fairways that looks nicer than the carpet in your living room; and bunkers that are always raked. And make sure you enjoy the divot-less greens, caddy’s who seem to enjoy their job despite bagging for Tiger-less talents, and scenery that make perfect screen savers – without any photo-shopping. Places where the service is so awesome, you feel like a celebrity.
Technically, we are enhancing, embellishing, and enlightening the sport of golf. Utilizing this grassroots type of approach, we have developed a loyal following to our group and our website efforts. Many are in search of our unique point of view on the sport, course reviews, our blog, our opinion polls, golf jokes and videos, and more. So do you EAT, SLEEP & GOLF? If so, why don’t you join us?
